"The icon notion of it is nerve-wracking," said Bosworth during a massive press event in Los Angeles last week. "But I think what was most nerve-wracking for me was the investment and passion that the fans have for this film." Dig deeper, however, and the woman who has been the lead in films like "Blue Crush," "Beyond the Sea," and "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" admits her insecurity runs much deeper than just worrying about how Superman fanboys are going to react to her portrayal of Lois Lane. "My nerves were all...crazy," she said. "I think that all actors are insecure, I think that I certainly am. I mean, I was insecure because I think almost all artists are insecure. I don't ever watch myself and think, 'That was great, I hit it out of the park!' Never." According to the super-skinny thespian, clad this day in a rib-cage revealing Stella McCartney dress, being scared is good for her muse. "I just feel like one of the things I love most about this job is that I don't feel like you can ever master it. I think you're always learning and you're always growing, and even when you think you're at the top of your game, there's always something else that you can do and learn," said Bosworth. "I think that if I wanted to fall into a niche where I knew I was really good at something, I could do that and I could feel secure there. But I don't want to do that, I want to do things that challenge me, that I will be scared doing, because I'm not the best at it." Part of Bosworth's challenge in "Superman Returns" was changing her signature blonde look; but that element wasn't a very big deal to her, except for the help it gave her to transform from an insecure actress into an on-screen dynamite reporter. "You change your hair color, you can be pretty shocked into how you look, you look completely different. But it was definitely - it certainly helped in creating a character and feeling like a different person, same as when you put on a completely different wardrobe. It's wonderful to be able to change your appearance. That's one of the reasons why I love this job and feel like you're a different person. To change your hair color may seem sort of meaningless to some people, but it does really make a whole difference in how you see yourself and how others see you and the way that you act and then the costume and everything involved in that character was really exciting. I really felt like I was becoming Lois Lane with the look. But I mean, I was nervous. I was nervous to be a part of a film of this magnitude.” Naturally, at this moment, as "Superman Returns" has already received strong positive buzz and had a huge star-studded premiere Wednesday night in Los Angeles, Bosworth seems to have overcome her insecurities enough to work the red carpet like an old pro, with her equally famous boyfriend
Orlando Bloom in tow, and wearing a skin-tight white gown that left little to the imagination. Perhaps the lady doth protest a little too much! |
