 Ford, LaBelle GLAAD-ly Accept Honors (Fashion Wire Daily)

Hilary Duff arrives at the 18th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York on Monday, March 26, 2007.(Fashion Wire Daily/Grant Lamos IV)Fashion Wire Daily - Monday night brought out boldfaced names in the areas of fashion, comedy, television and music for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards in New York. Tom Ford, Patti LaBelle and Tim Gunn were honored for their work in the community at a cocktail and dinner ceremony held in Time Square's Marriott Marquis hotel.

The annual awards ceremony - now in its 18th year - recognizes and honors mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. In addition to the special recognition given to Ford, LaBelle and comedian Kate Clinton, a host of celebrities including Hilary Duff and John Waters were on hand to announce the winners in categories such as outstanding documentary, outstanding magazine coverage, and outstanding Spanish-language variety program.

Julianne Moore presented former Gucci creative director Tom Ford with the Vito Russo Award, named after the founding member of GLAAD, for his humanitarian contributions and work with AIDS-related charities. Sharp-tongued comedian and writer Kate Clinton received the Pioneer Award from Cynthia Nixon for her outspoken vocal presence in the media long before gay and lesbian organizations were founded. R&B queen Patti LaBelle was recognized with the Excellence in Media Award for her long-time commitment to the LGBT community. Recent Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson presented the music legend with her honor.

Outstanding documentary was given to Rosie O'Donnell's "All Aboard! Rosie's Family Cruise," who arrived with wife Kelli Carpenter O'Donnell. The award for outstanding reality program recognized designer favorite "Project Runway," which was accepted by Tim Gunn. Gunn, who was most recently chair of the fashion design department at Parsons and who is prominently featured in the reality series, was recently named chief creative officer for Liz Claiborne. Details editor-in-chief Dan Peres picked up the award for outstanding magazine coverage for the men's magazine.

For the third consecutive year, the GLAAD media awards will be televised on MTV's LGBT channel Logo on April 21. In addition to the New York event, additional GLAAD media awards ceremonies will take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco and South Florida over the next few months.
