A paparazzi video shows the former O.C. star leaving a Los Angeles-area hospital at around 10 p.m. Monday, about five hours after she fell ill at a friend's Memorial Day barbecue. Barton's rep has not yet responded to E! News' request for comment, but tmz.com reported yesterday that the starlet suffered an adverse reaction after consuming a few cocktails on top of the prescription antibiotics she was taking for a persistent case of bronchitis. No further details were available regarding her condition, but a source told TMZ that the 21-year-old Barton was "resting comfortably" shortly after being admitted to Sherman Oaks Hospital and that her mother and sister were by her side throughout. Barton's rep denied that the actress was abusing drugs or alcohol in any way that night, according to In Touch Weekly. The star of the upcoming period romance Virgin Territory has reportedly been battling bronchitis for the past several weeks, appearing under the weather in Cannes, Paris and London. Meanwhile,
Nicole Richie could be the hostess with the mostest, but her presentation still leaves something to be desired. The petite Simple Life star also celebrated the long weekend in style, cohosting an afternoon soiree that was attended by Barton Sunday at a friend's house in Beverly Hills. Richie's intentionally silly party invite, however, left tabloid editors scratching their heads rather than giggling into their keyboards. "My fellow Americans it's that time of year to celebrate our country by drinking massive amounts of beer," the invitation began. "Let's stand together as one, live the American dream/Take shots, pass out, & wake up with our pants ripped open at the seems/Let's glorify this day in your sluttiest tops and your tightest pair of tsubi jeans/Even though we have no [expletive] clue what Memorial Day really means!!" Followed by this addendum: "There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds allowed in. Start starving yourself now. See you all then!!!" The invitation could theoretically be considered a clever example of Richie poking fun at herself, but any form of expression that requires further explanation from a publicist is entering shaky territory. "This invitation was sent via email to her friends who understand that she was responding in a joking manner to the constant untruths printed about her in the media," Richie's rep, Nicole Perna, told E! Online's Awful Truth. "Her reference to Memorial Day was in no way meant to offend anyone but was simply an expression of her distaste for the current situation." |
