Julia Roberts to get cinema-arts prize (AP)

Julia Roberts will receive the 22nd American Cinematheque Award at a ceremony in Beverly Hills on Oct. 12.

"Julia Roberts is a true movie star who has delighted audiences and critics in so many pictures," board chairman Rick Nicita said in a statement.

Roberts presented the award to George Clooney at last year's event. Previous recipients also include Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

The 39-year-old actress won an Oscar in 2001 for "Erin Brockovich." She received Oscar nominations for "Steel Magnolias" and "Pretty Woman."

The American Cinematheque owns and operates two area theaters that show classic, experimental and non-mainstream films and videos, the Egyptian in Hollywood and the Aero in Santa Monica.

AMC will air the tribute Dec. 5.
