In all, at least four projects are in various stages of development.
Kathryn DeLorean, the latest entrant, is partnering with a consortium of producers on a film written by "Saw IV" scribe Thomas Fenton.
"Other producers have asked me to back their projects on behalf of the DeLorean estate," said DeLorean, who is working with principals at Nine/8 Entertainment, Evolution Entertainment and Relevant Entertainment.
"We felt this was the team to tell the right story the right way. This is the definitive John DeLorean movie. We wanted to ensure my father's story was handled properly; the headlines do not begin to tell the tale."
Meanwhile Zachary DeLorean, the executor of the DeLorean estate, is cooperating with a project being co-written and directed by Alex Holmes (the BBC series "Dunkirk").
Additionally, producer David Permut ("Youth in Revolt") is developing a project, and "Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner's production company has a screenplay by James Toback ("Black and White").
DeLorean left his executive job at General Motors to launch the DeLorean Motor Co., which manufactured his DMC-12s in Northern Ireland during the early 1980s. With its flashy gull-wing doors, the car was turned into a time machine in "Back to the Future."
An FBI sting operation led to an accusation of drug trafficking against John DeLorean that eventually resulted in an acquittal, but not before his company went bankrupt after turning out just 9,000 cars. DeLorean died of a stroke in 2005, aged 80. |
